The smart wearable market of India is about to get a new entrant this week. Xiaomi is all set to launch its first Redmi branded wearable in India in the coming days, which is hopefully going to be a fitness tracker. The device was first teased by Xiaomi at the launch event of Mi Watch, but other details about it were not known till now. That changes now because the device has been spotted at the website of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. Additionally, a Chinese tipster has also seen the mentions of a Redmi fitness tracker in the Mi Fit app, thus further confirming the rumors.
Let’s dive into the BIS certification details first of all. The BIS website shows a Redmi device listed under the smartwatch category instead of a smart band, fitness tracker or something similar. It shows the model number of the device as HMSH01GE but doesn’t provide any other details. You can see the listing below:
However, if we go by the details of Chinese tipster then the Mi Fit app actually suggests that it will be a fitness tracker. The same tipster also claimed that it will also have an alarm clock, a heart rate monitor and music streaming facility from connected phones. It may also have the ability to display weather updates and make payments via NFC, as per the info provided by that tipster. An image suggesting the shape and size of the device was also leaked on Weibo, which you can see below:
As you can see, it looks similar to Mi Band 4 instead of a smartwatch. But who knows, if it comes with the functionality of both? So let’s wait and watch. As always, we’ll continue sharing more details about it as they come out.
