It looks like the developers of Minecraft have been running a misleading campaign to sell their game. They have been selling the Java edition of their game with an offer that is turning out to be fake. According to a Reddit thread started by some users, the Java edition of Minecraft was being sold with the offer of a redeemable gift code that could be used to purchase the Minecraft Windows 10 edition for free. When the users logged into the Mojang account, they were greeted with the following message-
You bought Minecraft: Java Edition during a period of time when Minecraft for Windows 10 was included for free. Claim your redeemable gift code by clicking the button below and follow the instructions.
However, the gift codes provided are not working.
The Reddit thread was started by a user named CivilizedPsycho. And since it was started, a lot of Minecraft gamers have also admitted that they’re facing the same issue. All of them had purchased the Java edition of the game in hopes that they’ll get the Win 10 version of Minecraft for free, but once they tried to redeem their gift codes they got the following error:
Error! It looks like we’ve temporarily run out of gift codes for Minecraft for Windows 10. Don’t worry though, more codes should be on their way. Please check back later!
Interestingly, the Minecraft team are aware of this issue for a long time, but they’ve not fixed it yet. Some threads regarding this issue also exist on the official Minecraft forum, and the only thing that Minecraft team has said is that they’re “working on it” and will let us know when the issue is resolved.
However, Redditors point out that this message has been posted a long time ago (some say it’s as old as four weeks), and since then the only thing that they’re doing is changing the date when it was last updated. This also seems true as the following support message posted on Reddit shows the last updated date as of January 1, 2020, the same message now shows date January 12, 2020, on the official forum.
We know that some of you are receiving an error when trying to receive a Windows 10 code from your Minecraft account. We really appreciate your patience while we’re working on it.
No need to contact us about it! We’ll let you know here when the issue is resolved (hopefully some time next week).
Thanks for your patience, and Happy New Year!

When we visited the threads about this issue on official Minecraft forums, we found that the support team has provided a link that people can use to request a different gift code until the issue is resolved. However, we don’t know how many of the users actually got a new working gift code.
Minecraft is one of the most popular games in the world. It doesn’t suit them to run a misleading promotion to boost their sales. Hopefully, they’ll fix this issue soon and users shall be able to renew their gift codes easily. If you are facing the same issue and have something to add from your side, feel free to comment below. We are closely monitoring the whole issue and will update this page when new information is available. Bookmark this page to stay updated with the news.
